Lake of the Woods Area
January 2006
3 Feb 2006
Katarina, Ruth and I did a job near Sioux Narrows - Lake of the Woods area. It took about 5 days and involved about 4 hours of driving every day. We left in the dark and returned in the dark. It was a little touchy finding places to eat that early.
The Nestor Falls/Sioux Narrows area is booming in the summer with tourists; however winter is pretty dead. Of course, as luck would have it a large group from the United States was coming into Sioux Narrows to go snowmobiling. This meant we had to switch our accommodations to Nestor Falls, adding another hour of driving every day. If the driving wasn't enough, we had anywhere from an hour to 2 hours of 'dead-walking' just to access our claims. The photo with the fire is our second last day. It was a 3km walk-in and 3 1/2km walk out at the end of the day.
At the end of the job, we visited some diamond drillers in the area.
They seemed pretty happy to chat for 5 minutes.
