This family of four are big on adventure!  They've even been to Africa on safari.  This spring they took a winter wonderland safari with CWW and they were all over it!

We all had a great time at this year's Sawmill Lake Classic. Hope to see everyone again next year!

The Sawmill Lake Classic is in Quetico Provincial Park. This year the trails needed a lot of work to be ready for the event. Chris Stromberg and Paul Duquette did most of this work, we joined them for a few days also. Above we are at Baptism Creek checking the ice thickness for safety.

This year's holidays were quite cold with temperatures between -35 to -25 degrees Celsius.  The snow squeaks and crunches as you walk at this temp.  Scarves and balaclavas become very important to avoid frostbite. It is truly beautiful, because the sun is always shining at this temperature.  The majority of Canada experienced a cold snap.  I'm sure there were many Canadians snuggled up to the woodstove with a warm coffee in hand, enjoying family time.  Our family enjoyed a few snowshoe walks in the bright sunshine and some good bonfires with hot chocolate.  How did you spend your holidays?

 This year has been a beautiful and rare start to winter.  Once in a while - and not even every year - the conditions are just right for lake skating.  For this to happen, the ice has to be acceptable quality; this is rare because either there's too much snow or the snow fell on wet ice and created a rough surface.  This year we've been blessed with a few weeks of ideal ice conditions. I've been busy updating the website, getting all the paperwork in order for offering excursions and basically doing that fun (kidding) office work at a computer.  So, it is especially sweet to unwind at the end of the day, cruising down the lake with a sunset in the sky that reflects in the ice!  You can see the full album for this rare experience complete with sunsets, puppies and good friends here.  How about you? The Seine River winds along the Sapawe Road offering beautiful views through giant red and white pines.

There are many scenic hikes beside the River. The adventurer finds intrigue to know what is beyond the next bend in the river...around the corner in the trail...or what view awaits at the crest of the hill. Come take a half-day or full-day snowshoe tour and enjoy the beautiful views as you follow the Seine River's path.

Snowing Again...

This year our winter began fairly mild with little snow and warmer temps.  This worked out well as it was a great window to build the barn.  The tin roof got on just in time for a large dump of snow.  This was immediately followed by a "cold snap" with temps reaching -45 C.  This meant the stoves consumed lots of firewood.  Although cold, it was very beautiful; one morning the lake was covered in a dreamy ice fog.
